Here Come the Dems
By now everyone has read about the John Edwards' trip to Missouri on behalf of Wayne Henke's candidacy for State Senate. http://justtotheright.blogspot.com has a very good write-up about the visit and its trappings.
However, I want to take this time to remind you what this visit is all about. It isn't really about getting Wayne Henke elected as State Senator, although the dems in all of Missouri would love that, and it isn't just about raising money for the campaign. What it is all about is making significant in-roads into St. Charles County by reducing margins of victory, especially Jim Talent's (see http://reppolitics.blogspot.com/2006/01/here-we-go.html). The question is, are we going to let that happen?
It is apparent that dems have learned a lot from our 72Hour plan. They learned it works and they learned to implement their own. This fact can be seen in the Byrd election and the recent specials in the 94th and 105th. Republicans on the other hand seem to have become complacent. This can and will be a costly attittude.
We've all heard many reasons why Republicans aren't "out there". They are tired, they are mad about this issue or that. Well get over it! We don't live in a perfect world. Other Republicans are going to make us mad. We aren't always going to have the time or worse yet take the time to understand some of the actions taken by the federal, state, or even local Republicans. Instead we just want to stay at home and "show them". All we are going to "show" is the dems back to the majority and that is unacceptable.
This blog has been a place where other Republicans have been taken to task because their actions are believed to be detrimental to our cause and to the best of interest of Missourian's as a whole if it leads to democrat rule again. However, I for one would gladly work with those same Republicans toward the same goal of achieving the principles of good government normally associated with Republicans. It's past time we all turned our swords away from our own soldiers and toward those who would take us back to failed policies and bigger government.
It would be better to be complaining about our Republican elected officials than to complain about the democrat majority. Just about all our local Republican elected officials will be challenged in one way or the other. We already know Senator Talent is being challenged more by out of state riff raff than the instate kind. If we don't get our act together, we could lose some of our Republican positions and we will see a lot more of John Edwards and Hillary Clinton in the future. I don't think I have strong enough stomache medicine to tolerate that outcome.
